This one’s a little more personal. I’ve never shared my whole home online, and only some locals know where I actually live. Not that it’s some huge mystery or anything. We’ve come to learn that many people we know have either lived here, or have relatives or friends who have lived here, which is pretty cool!
As soon as this house came on the market I knew it was mine. I literally manifested this thing, and fast. I wasn’t even sure I was fully ready to commit to a mortgage, but I jumped in and here we are a few short years later. We’ve done some updates to the house that have made a big difference in the quality of life we have here, and have hopefully added some value to the property. There’s still a long way to go, but I hope the updates I’m sharing with you today inspire you or help you if you’re also taking on a fixer upper!
Paint. Everywhere.
There’s almost not a single room we haven’t painted in this house. Painting a space can transform it completely. We’ve painted almost every room of the house now and it feels like a completely different place! I look back at the old listing photos and am so proud of how far this place has come.
New Windows
This house is old, which means the windows were old too. We replaced the windows in the main living areas as well as our back door. We went from a rickety old french door that could have easily been kicked in by anyone who felt like breaking in, to a brand new, secure sliding door. I’m a little obsessed with making sure the deadbolt on the bottom is always locked. That’s one feature I’ll never take for granted.
New Roof
This one we really didn’t plan on having to do. We kept having leak after leak, and after we patched the ceiling and a spot in the attic one too many times we decided it was best to just have the entire roof replaced. And man am I glad we did it before we had to endure another rainy spring. The roof paired with the new windows helps keep our heat and AC in, creates a more cozy vibe, and helps put my mind at ease knowing we are safe.
Master Bathroom Refresh
This one we did on a budget. We kept our vanity, painted the vanity and mirror, replaced the floor with a thick waterproof vinyl, painted the walls, and added a new towel and toilet paper holder. The end. It took us months to finish just because life got in the way, but if you put your head down and work until you finish it’s easily a weekend project. The master bedroom and bathroom are one of the main selling
points of any home, so we wanted to make sure for our sake and for future buyers that we gave this space a little refresh.
New Water Heater
Not so exciting, but very necessary. The one that came with the house was a mystery machine wrapped in paper so we didn’t even know how old the thing was. Updating appliances like this, especially if they’re old, helps with efficiency and to hopefully save some money on utilities, which I could then put into things that are actually exciting, like new furniture and decor!
Some updates we’re looking forward to completing this spring are improvements to our deck, cleaning up our landscape, and repairing cosmetic flaws on our exterior. After that I’m hoping and praying the stars will align, and we will get to move on to our next chapter in life! I’m grateful for the memories this house has given us, and I’m ready to make new ones wherever we go next.
We’ve had to make some big sacrifices in what we are able to purchase for fun in order to pay for these updates, but I just keep telling myself it’s all worth it to be able to sit and relax in a renovated home, and to be able to eventually sell the property and get our money back. These are all renovations that anyone can easily do with the help of the right professionals. If you’re in the middle of a big home project, let me know below!
