Being able to stay at home and raise my babies, see that they’re safe, and know I’m the one making all of the decisions on how they’re being raised and cared for is the biggest blessing in my life. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
One of the things that will support me in that journey is this blog.
This blog is a sense of escape, a sanctuary, a space that is mine. And as a stay at home mom in 2021, it’s so important to have a way to make money from home, or preferably multiple ways. It’s exciting to know that something I really love doing could turn into my career one day.
Some days I’m stressed beyond belief, sometimes I get really lonely, but none of that compares to the anxiety I got thinking about having to go to a job outside the home and send my kids to any sort of childcare, and build someone else’s dream instead of my own.
I knew 100% that wasn’t for me. It wasn’t an option. It works perfectly for some, but it didn’t sit right with me. I knew had to do something from home to make money while I raise these babies.
Before my daughter was born I started my own little business from home as a Virtual Assistant. I did tasks for online businesses like designing sales pages and graphics for them, organizing their email lists, writing their social media posts, and so on.
I was very pregnant, like 39 weeks very pregnant. I stopped and thought about how some moms are still on their feet at a job at 39 weeks pregnant, and there I was sitting at my own desk in my home office, surrounded by my snacks and a miniature fan (it was HOT in that upstairs room), and I was so SO grateful.
I still do a bit of VA work today, but I knew I needed to create something to go along with it that was mine, that focused on my own brand and my own interests, and allowed me to use more of my creativity.
As a work-at-home mom I’m constantly serving others, my children, my clients, my pets. I needed something that would fulfill me and serve me, be my escape and a place where I can create and grow. I love designing, writing, photography, and decorating my home, and I wanted a place for all of those things to live.
That’s when I learned about the business of blogging. I knew about hobby blogging, but I had no idea I could actually make a career of it! When I tell you I became instantly obsessed, I’m not kidding. I watched endless videos, listened to podcasts constantly (even in the shower), and did everything I could to prepare myself to get into the business myself, for real. No more skirting around the idea of blogging. I was diving in.
I dipped my toe into making money “blogging” by posting a bit on my Instagram and getting a few affiliate marketing accounts. I didn’t have the confidence or proof I felt I needed yet, so I played it small just in case. Once I got my first check from affiliate marketing I was totally convinced I could do this. However, I should’ve known all along that I can do this, anyone can do this, and I should’ve just jumped in sooner. But everything happens for a reason and I wouldn’t change my process for anything!
Today, this blog is my sense of escape. I get lost in creating for hours upon hours, (which, I admit, I do need to create some boundaries) but it’s so fun for me! To have something I own, I created, that doesn’t cry or bite me (lol but seriously), it’s amazing.
And knowing this blog could create a legacy and income I can use to support my family that I love so much today and for days to come truly fills my mama heart with so much joy.
I believe every mom deserves this. Something that’s hers, something that she can grow, something that she can get lost in and have fun with. I also believe every mom can make money from home doing this if they put their heart and soul into it.
I’m new to having an actual blog. I’m not an expert on blogging in general (yet!) but I am an expert on running my own blog and business from home in my own way while chasing little ones around.
I’m so excited to share everything I know and everything I’ll learn with you all so you can start growing your own blogging business if you want!
