This post is about how to get a perfect, trendy wardrobe for Winter 2021 without breaking the bank.
I am following all of these tips myself. This is how I plan to add amazing, trendy staple pieces to my winter wardrobe that will allow me to have fun and be on trend while also investing in my future wardrobe as well. Fast fashion is an issue I would love to start being more conscious about. Throwing pieces away after every season isn’t the way I want to operate.
So without stalling any further, lets get to the tips!
Shop Your Own Closet First
We all get that feeling of having “nothing to wear,” but you might be surprised just how many great pieces you already own. Shop your closet first before going out and buying things you might already have. I’m a huge fan of neutrals, jeans, and basic tees/long sleeves. No matter where you get them from, if you spend $5 or $50 on them, they will serve the same purpose as the base of your outfit. You can add on accessories and new pieces, but starting with a good base is easy. You can even thrift these pieces!
Thrift for Basics/Fast Fashion
There are some pieces you can find anywhere and everywhere, like a basic black tee or tank top. If you feel comfortable thrifting, that’s a great options for pieces you don’t want to invest in or for fast fashion pieces you know you won’t wear again after this season. I recently just went thrifting for some fall pieces myself. I got an Urban Outfitters plaid mini dress for only $7! Thrifting for items I know I’ll only wear a couple times has saved me so much money.
Splurge on the Staples
Now, I know I said to thrift and save money when buying things like basic tees, but if you’re buying a tee you know you’ll probably wear very frequently, splurge and get something that will last you for months, even years, to come. Things I’ve spent a little extra on are shoes and jeans. These two items get the most wear in my closet, so when possible I like to make sure I’m investing in pieces that are going to hold up and not need replacing so soon. Some items will even make great transition pieces between all seasons.
Get These Main Staples
All you need in order to get any wardrobe winter ready is to add these staples: a shacket, a trench coat or puffer coat (it’s okay to just pick one), a pair of casual booties, a pair of more formal boots, jeans that can be dressed up or down, a couple sweaters, and a couple neutral colored long sleeve tees. Depending on your personal style you may want a dress or two if you plan to dress up for the holidays. All together that about 10 pieces that you can mix and match and use with what you already own.
Chances are, you already have a few of these things too, like jeans and a tee. Investing in a couple seasonal pieces, like a nice sweater and boots, to compliment the rest of the clothes you already have is a great way to stay trendy while not breaking the bank. Pay attention to the items you see everywhere online, on TV, in ads etc. and decide if you want to join the trend or go against the grain, then purchase accordingly. Fashion is so personal, so there’s no wrong way to go about it.
Don’t Overdo It
You don’t need it all. Everyone you see online might make everything look gorgeous and put that fire inside of you that makes you want to buy every single thing they share – but you don’t need to. Pay attention to what you feel comfortable in, what fits your body type well, and what you actually enjoy wearing. Buy pieces you enjoy and will get use of. Don’t buy 10 different grey sweaters because a blogger said she loved all of them. One and done. If you’re just starting to build your wardrobe, pick one item in each category to buy, then move on.
I hope you enjoyed these tips and have been inspired! I’m excited to go through my closet and put together some outfits for inspiration before I invest in the couple new pieces I’ll need for winter. I’ve been eyeing a new pair of boots and a new heavy coat!
